Are there any questions?

My fellow GTAs, what would you do if a student came up to you after class and the following conversation ensued:

Student: Can I ask you about your personal politics?
Me: Um, sure. What's up?
Student: Do you think that 9/11 was a conspiracy?
Me: What do you mean?
Student: Do you think that the 9/11 attacks were a military operation carried out by the government?
Me: ***shocked silence***

Discuss.

I actually had that conversation on the first day of class. We were on the topic of marginalized theories and discourses. A student brought it up and I pursued it a little while, especially how our knowledge of the world is largely over-mediated.

So, next time, don't be shocked into silence - just make it the centerpoint of class discussion. Or not. What do you think?

That's good advice. If it happened in class, I probably would've said something. But it happened after class, and it didn't even tie in with our class dicussion. I just felt a bit ambushed.
